Summary of problem: Integrate magnetic linear encoder into existing device to create closed loop control system.

Skills used/developed:

  • Designed and fabricated prototype to retrofit existing device with encoder

  • Performed troubleshooting on various encoder and motor controller options

  • Created basic graphical representations of data using basic MATlab scripts

Outcome:

  • Successfully implemented closed loop feedback on existing device

  • Developed a basic understanding of magnetic encoders and closed loop feedback systems for DC motors

  • Presented findings to COO and clinical specialist to support design decisions for the next generation device
